Facebook has announced they're changing its name to Meta. They are making a metaverse and it will incorporate virtual and augmented reality. They showed a sneak peak of what's to come at Facebook's Connect conference. From what was shown in the video you can hang out in virtual environments and talk to people you know. In the video people are shown as avatars in a virtual room even including a virtual Mark Zuckerburg. Some are floating around like there's no gravity. They talked about the possibility of augmented art pieces placed around the world which could be found by people in that certain location similar to how the real world and virtual world are a part of the game Pokémon Go. This is all reminiscent of the science fiction novel “Ready Player One” by Ernest Cline. The metaverse shown looks very similar to the popular VR game VRChat which is used by people to talk and play games in virtual environments. Not much is known at the moment of what will become of the metaverse and if it will be used in our daily lives.
